Mobile Courses on ClickCourse with Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS7

If you are using our mLearning studio in addition to our LMS Clickcourse, you may need to change some settings on the server. If the server is running Windows Server 2008 R2, then chances are the MIME type for .mp4 videos will not be added in automatically. This can cause issues with the videos on the mobile courses to not play, making the course unusable. Adding in this MIME type will allow the server to know what an .mp4 file is and how it should be treated. Please follow these steps to add in the MIME type so that the videos will play.

How to add a MIME type to a Web site or application

  1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager:
    • If you are using Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2:
      • On the taskbar, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    • If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7:
      • On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
      • Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. In the Connections pane, go to the site, application, or directory for which you want to add a MIME type.
  3. In the Home pane, double-click MIME Types.

  4. In the MIME Types pane, click Add... in the Actions pane.

  5. In the Add MIME Type dialog box, add the file name extension and MIME type, and then click OK.
